Young Adults In Trouble

It seems as today we have young adults who look up to "young hollywood stars" and sometimes these stars are not the perfect role models. I decided to take a closer look at a Hollywood star who has became famous possibly for all the wrong reasons. Kim Kardashian who has a reality show on E television is famous for being a socialite, sex tapes with a celebrity, and being a spoiled rich kid. She has now done an issue in Playboy which is a ten page spread completely naked. The reason I have decided to focus on Kim is because of the recent shows on E that showed in Kim's room a stripper pole and her little sisters age 12 and 9 showing America how to do different moves on the pole. Following that they also mention they know what girls do on the show Girl's Gone Wild it is absolutely sad that these two young ladies have been exposed to these things at such a young age. What is even worse is that their are so many young adults who look up to Kim as a role model and want to be just like her. Below is the comment that I wrote that was about Kim and her younger sisters:

I want to comment on one of the comments above which is "the younger sister was seen doing stripper moves on a pole in Kim's room" this is a concern that parents should have with celebrity type people like Kim. By Kim having her own reality show on E, makes America have to worry about if younger adolescents are being corrupted with the same influence that Kim's younger sister's see. Someone like Kim would be considered a celebrity for what? Is Kim a celebrity for having a sex tape out, partying at every club, and now posing for Playboy naked? Young adolescents see this and think this is what's "cool" and what they want to be like. Parents should be concerned this is a new generation and it seems like it's letting loss and becoming extremely wild. On the other hand, I find it extremely scary that I have a younger sibling who actually knows who Kim is and what she's famous for at age eleven. The media is exposing the wrong things and it is actually scary that young adults are aware of these socialites and what they are famous for. Also the fact that Kim has younger sisters should concern her with the image she is exposing to other young adults.

Overall, we can only hope that parents within society have control over what their children are watching, it is important to protect young adults because we don't need a corrupted society. Our future is in the hands of our youth, we need to make sure they are protected by the corrupted society that we live amongst.

The second article that I discuss is about Britney Spears and how she has been acting non-motherly as she has lost her children. It is sad to see a mother loss custody of her children, because usually the children are always considered in the hands of the mother as well off. Here we see Spears loss her two boys and show no concern at all.

I want to comment on the fact that Britney Spears is a mother of two young boys and she has not shown her qualities of being a good mother. I have discussed how young Hollywood are finding themselves in the eyes of young adults as their “ideal” but how these stars are not good role models for our youth. Now, I want to focus on the fact that Bitney Spears has been a young star since age 12 and now is trying to raise two boys and has no idea how to be a mother.

The problem that society should really focus on is the fact that Spear’s two son’s will grow up to be the son’s of a once princess of pop. With all the horrible media that Spear’s has drawn on her life with her two son’s being a horrible mother will be a concern for the two young boys one day. They will have to face the fact that their mother had to turn over her two young boys to their father due to being a “bad mom” it is extremely sad that Spear’s was in the media doing all these things. How are her boys going to react when they are old enough to realize that their mother was doing all these drugs and unreliable things while they were growing up?

When looking into a child’s life style and the problems that they faced while growing up, one can always find an understanding to certain situations why young adults are the way they are. We can only imagine what Spears children will have to face when they grow up. Hopefully these two boys can understand that their mother was going through a hard time within her life which is still no excuse for her actions, will at least help them understand she just wasn’t able to handle having two kids and being in the lime light all at the same time.

Overall, I want to just touch on the fact that after Spear’s lost her children to her ex husband she was seen later that night in a dance club dancing on tables in a mini skirt. How upset could she really have been? These actions that Spears is showing is actually extremely sad, because a mother is suppose to be comforting and close with her children. It is hard to understand the life style that Spear’s lives but once you have children it’s suppose to change the way you view life, your not suppose to continue living in the fast lane.

After reading and watching all the different stories about Spears losing her children one can only say to themselves this women has problems. It is sad that these children will have to face issues of their own someday and still continue to either have a relationship with their mother or possibly chose not to. But, the fact of the matter is, because Spears is in the media everyday for being a pop star, everyone has seen how bad of a mother she has been.

Overall, these two articles that I have read and discuss show that young adults need to be protected by the corruption of hollywood. We can see with the Kardashian family how Kim's younger sisters are stripping on the stripper pole in Kim's room and running around the house talking about what's on Girls Gone Wild. It is extremely sad that these young girls at age 9 and 12 are doing such a thing and behaving in such a way. I also want to focus of Britney Spears and the fact that she lost her two kids because she was an unfit mother in the eyes of the child court room. The media displayed the fact that Spears had pills laying around the house in reach of the children and other unsafe items which children are not suppose to be around. This is a major concern that society should focus on because with these young children being exposed to all these factors is exposing our youth to things at such an early age, which can ruin them for their future.

Young Adults and College

How many young adults are missing out on college? It's extremely unfortunate that young adults are missing out on going to college due to financial issues. I know what people are thinking, that there are so many loans and grants out there to help young adults get through college. Most of the money that is available for young adults is through different corporations that are offering a student with the highest G.P.A. in there class or high SAT. What about the young adults who get into these major universities but there family background does not allow them financially to go to college.

One of the major grants today that numerous young adults receive is through the government which is the Pell Grant. The Pell Grant is a grant that college students receive only if the student qualifies through the system. The student most come from a family in which the student and the family can prove that they can not afford for college. In 2008 the government has announced that more money will be issued to college student that qualify for Pell Grant. With that helping college students a little more there is still a numerous number of young adults that are finding themselves unable to afford college.

Another major issue to look at is the difference between a public school and a private school. The cost for private school is extremely more expensive than the cost of public schools. Because private schools can raise their tuition more every year than public schools, it's becoming a major problem if college is affordable even after loans and grants. I found that 39% of first year college students borrowed money in 1999-2000. I also found within the same article that student loans rates are extremely high with $23,000 for dependent undergrads. As a result we are finding that there are helping hands to get by for college students, but many still find themselves unable to live off what is provided for them through different grants and loans. The picture here to the left is a chart that shows the average cost of public colleges and the out of pocket money that these families can afford for their college students.

Overall, the high demand for young adults to attend college today is over 70 percent. The problems that one has to face is the cost! It's extremely unfortunate that young adults miss out of an opporuity of a life time because college is too expensive. Or even have to settle for less because of the cost. Something that everyone should keep in mind is the fact that college is only getting more expensive everyday. Think about the next generation in your family and how you can start saving for them now.

Young Stars With Server Problems

Today when young children turn on the television today, they see their favorite young stars on the big screen. But, are they viewing the right things? Now a days, it is well known that young Hollywood stars are finding themselves with more issues than ever before. Why is this happening? And are these the ideal "young celebrities" parents want their children to look up to? Its obvious that these young stars have many issues such as drug and alcohol problems and some eating disorders. The photo here to the right is a picture of Lindsay Lohan a childhood star and "ideal role model" for young adults today. In this photo we have Lindsay with a bottle of whiskey and a bag of coke. Do parents find her an ideal role model?

First of all, to touch on the drug and alcohol problems I would like to focus on a few main celebrity's that children look up to today. With the main one being Lindsay Lohan who is famous from her childhood movie "Parent Trap and Herbie." It started off with her moving to Los Angeles on her own at age eighteen. When she got to LA we can say she was hanging around the "party crowd" with people such as Paris Hilton and even Nicole Richie. Right away we see Lindsay partying all hours of the night and losing tremendous weight extremely fast. The picture here to the right is a picture of Lindsay and Nicole Richie extremely skinny and unhealthy. So one can say would children really be able to read and understand what Vanity Fair magazine is saying about these two young Hollywood stars. Probably not, but I'm sure concerned parents will tend to dislike these images and most likely not support their children's likings for these young stars. The young Hollywood star was seen all over Los Angeles nightlife doing and saying the most outrageous things, the only answer for her actions, was drugs! It's unfortunate that these young Hollywood stars are going through these experiences. But, is it because they want the action or maybe the pressure of success as a young actress?

We can also discuss the whole idea of "image" within young Hollywood stars. What is the "ideal weight" to look good in Hollywood? Looking at some of these young stars one can say to themselves are these young adults on drugs or have possible eating disorders or even a combination of both. Looking at young star Mary Kat Olsen (in the picture to the left) who grow up on the television series Full House, checked herself into rehab at only eighteen years old for having an eating disorders. As shown here to the left Mary Kat is signing autographs for a group of fans and looks extremely skinny. The problem with this is , Mary Kat is an "role model" for young adults and going in public as skinny as she is portrays being skinny is "cool" makes children think that is the way their suppose to look. She is not healthy and is showing how unnourished she is with a backless dress on. The sad thing with Mary Kat is between her twin sister and her alone she's worth thirty eight million dollars. With a young Hollywood star being worth that much money at such a young age, the issue that also has came up was are these children getting themselves into trouble thinking they can pay their way out of things?

Overall, the scary thought is with all the problems that has been coming out about these young Hollywood stars and their problematic life styles, are parents comfortable with there children watching "coked out" Lindsay Lohan's movie "Herbie" or Mary Kat Olsen's Disney channel movies with eating disorders. I can not speak for everyone but there are parents that have now not allowed their children to be "fans" of these young Hollywood problematic stars. I must say that is it a worry for parents to allow their children to be fans of these young stars that find themselves being arrested or in trouble with the law every week. The only way to possible get through to these young stars is to maybe stop supporting the problems they bring to their lives. By this I mean, stop taking children to see maybe Lindsay Lohan's latest movie, or buy Paris Hilton's new cd, and even allow their children to watch the "Simple Life" with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie on television. There are ways to prevent our youth today to not be so focused on these non focused young Hollywood stars today. Our youth is our future, we need to do everything possible to protect them from being "brain washed" with nonsense Hollywood drama.

The Government Playing as Parent: Are Children Safe?

Are children safe today? This is a question that runs through a parent’s head every time their child is out of sight from them. Now a days, you can never be so sure if your child is save or not. In 2001, 837,055 people in the United States were missing at one point, out of that number 80 percent were children. The government has created systems that help parents today make sure there is safety for their children. I want to focus on two very different government ran systems that are extremely effective to help parents have more safety over their children.

The first effective government system I want to focus on for the safety of children would be the system to have registered sex offenders be known. This system is extremely effective in which it is open to the public to know whether or not parents are moving next door to a sex offender who possibly has a thing for young children. The picture shown to the left is a photo of Abel Quero who is a registered sex offender in the two mile radius of USC. By having this system it helps parents to be more aware of their surroundings to keep their children safe and secure. If I was a parent I would not want to be stressed out when my child are outside playing, because I lived in a neighborhood were there was a numerous amount of registered sex offenders. When I researched this topic I typed in the zip code of USC area and found that in a two block radius of the campus there was 93 registered sex offenders. I found that this system is extremely helpful to concerned parents who want to live within a community were their children are safe while they’re outside playing. With the help from the government on making sex offenders register helps parents to know if they are living next door to someone who has been convicted of violating a child’s youth.

On the other hand, I decided to also focus on the wonderful system that the government created which is the amber alert. The picture shown here to the right is the breaking news reports when the amber alert is put into effect. This system has been able to send out an alert across the interstate highways when a child have been kidnapped. This system has saved over a hundred children since activated in 2002. This program has helped parents feel that the government is playing a major role in keeping children as safe as possible. The power of keeping our children safe is one of the most important feelings that any parents can possibly have. It’s hard for parents to feel safe with letting their children go outside and play or even head off to school now a days with the craziness that our world has come to. I personally feel that the amber alert is a great success for parents to feel more comfortable with the government helping to protect children.

With the government playing as a parent, can a sure that children now a days are far more protected than ever before. With the focus of these two systems, parents can feel more comfortable for the safety of their children. For any parent, the concern of safety has to cross their minds everyday when their child is out of their sight. But, with the governments help behind them it makes them feel a sort of comfort.

Children In Poverty

It seems as though today society is oblivious to the fact that there are so many children in the world living within poverty. Now a days, we have numerous foundations that cater to helping orphan children on the streets. There is one particular city that I want to focus more on which is Mexico City in Mexico. Mexico City is the largest city within the country of Mexico with a population of twenty million people. With that being said one fifth of Mexican children in Mexico City are living in poverty.
There are many issues that come along with one fifth of Mexican children in Mexico City living within poverty. The main issue that I want to focus on is the lack of education that these children are not receiving because they have no birth certificates which means there is no identification of these kids. These children are roaming the streets of Mexico City begging for money and putting on tricks or shows are various stop lights. While these children are living on the streets and hanging around during the day with nothing to do, other children are receiving an education that these children are not able to get. I also want to focus on another point, these children have no parental guidance and find themselves doing anything to be on drugs everyday. This is a major issue with children using various drugs on the streets on Mexico City causing it to be a dangerous place for anyone to be. The issue with this is the fact that these children are sharing needles to get high which can spread HIV. It’s hard for uneducated young adults to know these things when you learn that in school. I also want to touch on the fact that these children are in desperate help. I actually have gone to Mexico City numerous times to help build homes for these children and work with them on educational issue that they are lacking. This is a serious issue that has been going on in Mexico City and I find it that people are unaware of the situation that is acquiring there.
So America says to themselves why should we be concerned with Mexico City? One main reason we should help is the simple fact that Mexico City has the highest poverty and homeless children in the world. Which not only says how the country is doing with trying to help get these kids off the streets, but how much the government cares. Secondly, because they’re our neighbors and the concern with some of these children coming across into our country with all the issues they have gone through is scary and a risk factor for our country. Possibly sending them help could keep some of them from trying to come across to the United States. The United States has had 11.2 million immigrants come into the country since 1990 to 2000. Out of those 11.2 million immigrants 8 million of them are Mexicans.
After researching on the poverty rates that children are living in today, it’s hard to believe that there could be such a thing as children who are homeless and on the streets. With all the money that runs through the market place today how could any person that’s worth millions or even billions of dollars not want to make enough programs to bring down the poverty rate or almost make homeless children on the streets vanish to what every child should be entitled to which is a the right to an education and a roof over their heads. Also, researching on the Mexican poverty rate in Mexico City amongst children I also discovered that the richest man in the world as of October of 2007 is from Mexico City. Carlos Slim who is a Mexican who runs a cell phone company resides in Mexico City is helping as much as he can, by donating 250,000 laptops to libraries and schools. With that being said, there is someone at least recognizing that it is important for the “future” which is our youth today to have an education to keep the turning point of our world market to get better every generation.

Divorce Rates: Children in danger

It seems today that more children are coming from divorce families. There are numerous issues today with children who come from broken homes and I feel that society should pay close attention to the divorce rates. Now a days, divorce is so common that family and friends might not see it being a problem with young adults going through a divorce but there are many issue that have been proven that children who come from "broken homes" have many issue that children do not have that

come from families were both parents are within the house. Society should pay close attention to these concerns, they are more problematic than most actually might see. I can relate to some of the issue that are touched upon within some of these articles, because I as well came from family in which my mother was a single mom and struggled two raise my brother and I. The first blog that I commented on was about the effects of children when coming from a divorce home children tend to have many issue that society should pay close attention to.

    1.

I absolutely agree with your topic and how this is a concern with today within our society. Children today that come from broken homes tend to have more problems than children from homes were both parents are there. I find it interesting that divorce rates have not dropped, which is

showing that more children today are suffering from emotional effects of not having the other parent present at all times. I also found it hard to believe that society has not looked deeply into this situation, because children today are our future and it is quite scary that the number of children who are coming from divorce families is still on the rise and these children have extreme problematic issue.

The second article that I commented on talks about how to educate children on marriages. The main issue that I agree with in this article is the fact that divorce rates are still high. The article states that by educating children on marriages can be a way to save a marriage in the future. I felt this was an article that is extremely effective for society to want to teach the young adults on how it is important to have good communication and emotional feelings towards their husband/wife.

nn @ 4:55 am:

I want to first stress that I agree with this article 100%. I feel that now a days people need to learn how to save their marriage. Divorce rates are high and with that said, children are in jeopardy. Like mentioned, here in this article more children today are witnessing divorces. This is causing our young adults to have emotional problems when they grow to be young adults. Our youth is our future, it's scary to think that 50% of our children today are coming from broken homes. I also want to emphasis that I strongly agree with the fact that by educating our young adults on how to have a successful marriage can be a turning point within our society for our future in bringing down divorce rates.

Overall, the two articles that I have read and responded to are both topics that are serious topics for our youth to pay close attention to for societies future. If our youth are growing up with emotional and problematic issues and the percent of children who witness divorce rates are 50% is scary. Society needs to figure out a way to save marriages, thats the only hope we can strive for.

Myths about children

Although there are many myths that focus on young adults there was one particular myth that I felt was interesting to focus on which was giving young adults a curfew to be in the house before ten at night to help bring down juvenile crime rates. While American society focus’ on young adults breaking curfew laws the main focus should not be making sure they are in the house before the street lights come on because that should be parents' role to make sure their children are in the house by a responsible time and focus more on children committing crimes during the day when they get out of school. In Mike Males’ book he focus’ on the fact that there is evidence that shows that by giving young adults a curfew is not going to bring down the crime rate committed by young adults. The evidence that Mike Males also provides states that most crimes that are committed by young adults happen during the day not at night time. In fact by giving young adults a curfew just keeps adolescents from roaming the streets to look for trouble at night time. This myth is maintained because majority of society believes that most crimes are committed at night time when people are in there homes and unable to be supervised by adults. In which they are roaming the streets looking for trouble. Another factor in why society believes that by giving young adults a curfew will bring down juvenile crimes rates is because the media focus’ on what parents want to happen and parents want to make sure that young adults stay off the streets past ten at night, so the media focus’ on making statements that use headings that address the problem with juvenile crime happening during the evening and now the focus would be on setting curfew’s for young adults. People believe it because they are only reading what is available in the news or in the paper. The problem is that the news will leave out certain data or use certain data to back up points that are misled. The central thesis that I will focus on in this paper is by giving juveniles curfews this will not bring down juvenile crime rates.

Throughout the articles I found that if there is a curfew law that is enforced police will focus more on young adults violating the curfew law by staying out past ten o’clock instead of picking up actual offenders that are committing serious crimes instead of a young adult committing the curfew law. The main issue is not that children are out roaming the streets past certain hours of the night, but the fact that they are not being supervised by adults is a fear that society is pointing there fingers at. With the belief that if there are no curfew laws than children will commit crimes at night. This is actually false because many children who are committing crimes are committing crimes in day light after school. The focus for police should not be young adults breaking curfews because there are many other serious crimes that are being committed with adults that are over the age to have a curfew at night past ten o’clock. The situation is easy to elaborate on when we can argue that children have curfews and are not allowed to roam the streets to help bring down young adolescents crimes rates that are being committed at night, but what about adults who committee crimes at night as well, should they have a curfew to see if we can bring down crime rates for adults?

Another focus on giving young adults curfew is the free time that they have to do what they want. During the fun hot summers having a curfew makes young adults have to be inside by ten o’clock which puts a tamper on them being able to have fun. The problem with this is that children look forward to summers to be able to stay out and hang out with there friends, whether it’s at the movie theatres, swimming pools, parks, etc. having to end the night so young and be in the house by ten o’clock makes young adults feel they might have to be rebellious and sneak out. The summer time is the only time for adolescents’ to be able to have s little free time and not have to worry about being in the house early, going to bed early, doing homework, and even hearing their parents yell at them about how late it is and that there still up. When I look back to when I was growing up I had a curfew in the summer that my parents made for me and it was later than ten o’clock and I didn’t think my curfew was even fair that my parents set for me. To look at it through my perspective I had a later curfew than ten o’clock and I was never in trouble nor do I remember any friends of mine committing crimes at night time. I can remember the joy of being able to hang out late whether it was to go swimming (hot tubing), play tag at night time, truth or dare, etc. There were no thoughts of committing crime just because it was night time and we were out later than ten o’clock "curfew time". If I was a teen now a days and there was a curfew law that stated young adults had to be in the house by ten o’clock that would absolutely be dreadful because my parents made a later curfew for me than the law would have. I can also remember that plenty of my friends had curfews that were the same as mine or some even an hour or so later.

The myth that young adults should have a curfew in order to keep juvenile crime rates down is a myth that the media is enforcing by making sure they give certain ideas to parents and adults through the press. The myth is sustained through the press by focusing on the fact that if young adults do not have a curfew than children are in danger of either being behind bars for committing a crime or in danger of their lives because there are dangerous youth on the streets at night time. The way that this myth is going to be maintained is by the media and press using certain word choice in the news to scare parents that children’s lives are at risks in we do not handle the curfew law as soon as possible. The interest of maintaining this myth is for the children’s safety to keep them off the streets and out of trouble, to make sure that the parents can sleep at night knowing that their children are safe at home in their beds and that nothing happens to them. I must say that the myth of juveniles having a curfew should not be accessible because of the fact that in order for children to learn certain things on their own they will have to learn themselves and with the law making certain laws such as curfews limits kids to roam freely and become adventurous on their own. I feel that children need to be able to have the opportunity to stay out late during the summer so that they have something to look forward to and that way they wont want to fail any classes during the school year because than they wont have to do summer school and they can have a fun summer. But, if students do not have anything to look forward to then they tend to slack off and not worthy about the future of a fun summer. Although, I have a younger sister and I agree that she should be in the house by ten o’clock, I know if she was out past ten o’clock she is not out in the streets looking for trouble or committing crimes she’s just being a kid and having fun!
